At Club SciWri, keeping science simple and understandable to the community has always been our mission. As Club SciWri continues to grow with our new collaborations, we recently expanded our team. Aparna Shah, Dolonchapa Chakraborty, Rajamani Selvam our new editors and Bhrugu Yagnik our cover image illustrator all are passionate about science communication. Learn more about them here!

Aparna Shah (aka @Neuro_Musings in the Twitterverse) is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. She is exploring the role of microRNAs (or gene-silencing ‘second messengers’) in regulating neuronal function. While she is fascinated by both order and disorder in the brain, she has spent the last decade obsessing over the neurobiological underpinnings of depression, Parkinson’s disease, and drug addiction. She is passionate about science communication, education and outreach and believes that the best way to learn something is to teach it!

Dolonchapa Chakraborty, PhD is a biologist by training, a freelance consultant, and a wannabe athlete! She recently joined NYU School of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Fellow and is also CSG’s NYC Chapter Rep. She unwinds from her several roles by baking, blogging, and boxing. She believes in the power of technical storytelling as an effective tool for scientific outreach and looks forward to practicing this art as an editor at Club SciWri. Follow her on LinkedIn.

Rajamani Selvam is currently a Neuroscience Ph.D. student at University of Connecticut Health, Farmington, CT. Her research focuses on understanding the interactions between growth factors and endocannabinoids in modulating acute synaptic transmission in the brain. Post-graduation, she is interested in pursuing a career in medical communications. She is passionate about communicating STEM education and outreach to middle and high schoolers. She is also a mentor for 1000 girls 1000 futures program, New York Academy of Sciences. Away from science, she is an artist and enjoys leisure travel. Follow her on LinkedIn.

Bhrugu Yagnik is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory Vaccine Centre, Yerkes National Primate Research Centre, Emory University, Atlanta, GA and works on the development of a HIV/AIDS vaccine. His doctoral research focused on the development of vaccines against Shigella using food grade Lactococcus lactis as an antigen delivery vehicle. Bhrugu has many awards to his credit which includes Lady Tata Memorial Fellowship Award 2014 (India), 2016 International Society Vaccine (ISV) Congress Award (Boston, MA), Dr. G. P. Talwar Young Scientist Award 2017 (Indian Immunology Society, India) and AIDS Vaccine 200 (AV200) Fellowship Award (Atlanta, GA). He is passionate about communicating the science in creative ways. In free time, Bhrugu indulges himself into the spirituality where he attempts to bring an amalgamation of science and spirituality. Follow him on Twitter or connect with him on LinkedIn or ResearchGate.

Paurvi Shinde did her PhD, Immunology from Uconn Health and her expertise lies in T/B cell biology and activation pathways. She currently works as a Post Doc Fellow at Bloodworks Northwest in Seattle, where she studies the mechanism of alloimmunization to certain human ‘Red Blood Cell antigens’. Apart from science, she’s loves editing scientific articles to convey the message behind it, in a clear and concise way. Follow her on Linkedin.

Rituparna Chakrabarti is the Editor-in-Chief at CSW. She pursued her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Georg-August University (Göttingen, Germany) and is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Biostructural Imaging of Neurodegeneration (BIN), Göttingen. For her, the interface of Science and art is THE PLACE to be! To unwind herself she plays mandolin and eagerly looks for a corner at a coffee house to slide herself in with a good read or company.
