CSG saw yet another week of insightful discussions and dynamic ideas to support and applaud the efforts of fellow researchers in the scientific community.

Actions speak louder

Lego honoured NASA female scientists with ‘minifigs’, as the winner of the LegoIdea contest. These toys will provide a guide as to what a girl is expected to be when they grow up, asserted MIT News editor Maia Weinstock. While these minifigs will encourage more girls to dream about STEM jobs, Selina Juul has singlehandedly manages to reduce food wastage in Denmark by 25% in the last 5 years. Recalling the difficult days she had as a child, Juul believes wastage of food is lack of respect to nature and the food supply chain well.

Holy ‘GRAIL’ closes on a whooping million dollar deal

GRAIL, a start-up out of parent company Illumina closes Series B funding in $900 million. This initiative would use ultra-deep sequencing to identify early free-floating cancer DNA in blood, to improve detection and subsequent treatment to reduce cancer mortality.

Hsp90: The sperm driving force

Researchers at NIRRH, Mumbai, India find the heat-shock protein, Hsp90 to be the major driving force behind sperm motility. This finding can aid drug discovery to combat infertility in men.

The number crunch in  …

Nature compiles and publishes a collection of articles explaining key statistical concepts in experimental design, highlighting key issues we biologist need to be aware of while providing practical guides to improve accuracy in our bench work. Moreover, an interactive portal introducing basic concepts in stats might be helpful for beginners.

Resume Roadmap

Two articles this week spelt out the dos and don’ts in you CV emphasising the importance of the right career lingo while incorporating the Top10 tips for Cv’s in 2017.
